Cornell University recently released a study that calls into question the effectiveness of one of the first laws regulating artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. Businesses have begun to use computer-based tools known as automated employment decision tools (AEDTs) to automate and streamline hiring and promotion decisions. In response to the use of these systems, New York City passed Local Law 144 to establish and set safeguards over the use of AI and AEDTs in the workplace.
