Partner Jon Friedman was quoted in a Law360 article about the preliminary injunction he and partner Reid Skibell helped secure in a lawsuit brought on behalf of Victim Rights Law Center and two students and their families. The injunction halts a large-scale termination at the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), which had impeded the office’s mandate to investigate student discrimination and enforce civil rights laws.

U.S. District Judge Myong J. Joun denied the federal government’s request to vacate or stay this order. Jon noted that Judge Joun ordered the Department of Education to bring back terminated OCR employees two months ago.

“As the District Court found last week in denying the government’s request to vacate or stay this order, the Department has still not substantially complied,” Jon said. “We will ask the First Circuit to uphold the District Court’s order so that OCR’s critical work on behalf of vulnerable students can continue without further delay.”
